Quasimorph Fire, Gas & Liquid Hazards
How 1.0 fire, puddles, gases, and covers reshape room fights
Quasimorph version 1.0 (July 31, 2026) stopped treating stations as dry shooting galleries. Magnum Scriptum updated fire and liquid mechanics, added gases, shipped four gas grenades, and separated thrown weapons from grenades. Lighting a poison puddle can cascade; a poorly aimed gas cloud can seal your extract route; frozen corpses shatter into ice shards that change footing mid-turn. This guide teaches hazard reading, safe throw timing, and when environment tools beat raw DPS.
Cross-link Throwables, Room Clearing, Midgame Combat, and Ammo Types. The embedded fire-turret clip shows how station devices and door peeks interact with hazard panic — learn the habit, then apply it to gas and liquids.
Why hazards matter in extraction RPGs
Every tile you set on fire is a tile you may need to cross with a wounded clone. Quasimorph already taxes action points, Calories, and backpack weight; environmental status adds a fourth tax: route denial. Players who clear rooms with grenades without reading floor state win the fight and lose the extract.
Habits before you throw anything:
- Examine enemies and floor state when the UI shows puddles, vents, or active flames.
- Trace your extract path after the cloud or fire resolves.
- Keep one AP after the throw so you can step out of your own hazard.
- Prefer Sneak peeks that reveal hazard tiles before Sprint commits you into them.
Fire and liquids
Fire spreads across flammable liquids and can ignite poison or fuel puddles. Community and patch language both encourage experimenting — setting fire to poison puddles is explicitly called out in 1.0 notes — but experimentation belongs on side rooms, not on the only corridor to extract.
Practical rules:
- Do not ignite the hallway you still need. Burn flank rooms or enemy chokepoints you will not re-enter.
- Water and other liquids can extinguish or redirect spread depending on tile type — re-examine after weather or sprinkler events.
- Incendiary ammo and Molotov-style tools interact with the same tile rules as environmental fire; budget them like area denial, not free damage.
- Friendly fire is real — clones, allies stepping aside, and deployable covers can sit inside your burn zone.
Frozen enemies that die can break into ice shards. Shards are debris and pathing hazards; do not assume a corpse tile stays walkable the way Early Access bodies did.
Gas grenades and clouds
1.0 adds four gas grenade profiles. Gases interact with fire and liquids already on the floor. Tutorial messaging flags first gas encounters — read it.
Use gas when:
- You need soft crowd control before a doorway breach.
- Examine shows flesh targets weak to the gas type and strong against your bullets.
- You can hold a room without walking through the cloud for loot.
Avoid gas when:
- The mission item sits inside the future cloud radius.
- Your only extract stair shares the room.
- Robot-heavy floors shrug the cloud and you just spent the throw AP.
Equip gas in utility belt slots and throw with the matching hotkey — details in Controls and Throwables. Grenade launchers can change detonation timing; do not assume thrown and launched timers match.
Deployable covers as anti-hazard tools
Two deployable covers arrived with 1.0. Place them to create peek geometry when crates are wrong or when you need a tile that is not on fire. Covers cost inventory space and AP; they buy turns, not permanent forts. Combine with Walk stance accuracy rather than Sprint peeks that strand you on a burning tile.
Turrets, doors, and environmental pranks
Station devices — fire turrets, doors, and NPC interactions — punish greed as hard as gas. Opening a door into an active turret without examine is a classic wipe. Hazard literacy includes device literacy:
- Peek with AP remaining.
- Disable or destroy turrets before optional loot rooms.
- Do not end turn on a doorway tile when flames or gas will process on the enemy phase.
Room Clearing Tactics remains the parent habit; this page adds the hazard layer on top.
Loadout slots for hazard kits
| Slot priority | Item | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Primary typed ammo | Win the gunfight |
| 2 | Meds / splints | Survive burns and bleeds |
| 3 | One gas or incendiary | Denial tool |
| 4 | Deployable cover | Safe peek tile |
| 5 | Reduction / food | Horror floors |
If weight forces a cut, drop fashion guns before the cover or the meds. Loot Priority and Ammo Types explain the same trade from different angles.
Story and midgame applications
- Unchained Belt endurance floors — gas can help Engine defense if you do not seal your own retreat; see Unchained Belt Walkthrough.
- RealWare robot lines — gas is often weaker than cut ammo; prefer covers and typed stacks.
- Baron / Rapture — area denial helps, but meter management still rules; How to Beat Baron.
- Defence missions — turrets and deployables shine when Quasimorphosis is locked at zero per Mission Types.
Common hazard mistakes
- Throwing gas into the loot room you still need to search.
- Igniting poison under your own feet for “big brain” damage.
- Assuming Early Access grenade timing still applies after the throwable split.
- Forgetting ice shards after freezing kills.
- Spending the last AP on a throw with no step-out.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Do fire and liquids interact in Quasimorph 1.0?
Yes. Magnum Scriptum updated fire and liquid mechanics and added gases. Flames can ignite puddles, including poison, so check extract routes before you start fires.
How many gas grenades does Quasimorph 1.0 add?
Four gas grenade types. Equip them in utility belt slots and confirm detonation timing if you launch them from a grenade launcher.
What happens when frozen enemies die?
They can break into ice shards that clutter tiles and change pathing. Do not assume corpse tiles stay clear like older Early Access bodies.
When should I use deployable covers?
When crate geometry is wrong or you need a safe peek tile away from fire or gas. Covers buy turns — they are not permanent fortifications.
Are thrown weapons the same as grenades?
No. 1.0 separates thrown knives, saws, nails, and bottles from grenades. Throwables take melee bonuses and can break; gas and explosive grenades stay utility tools.
Should beginners spam gas on Mars?
Usually no. Learn door discipline first on Absentia moons, then add gas once you can protect extract routes on midgame stations.
